Why does it matter to be still?

I believe it is because that is how you get in touch with God’s heart and see His view of things. Have you ever heard people pray, “Be still and know that I am God?” It means different things to different people. Here is a view of how it could pertain to you.
Two things happened on the cross that forever changed the world. These two things are mentioned in the first chapter of Corinthians, but they are both really one story. I believe these two things are forever connected; they are on a continuum with one another. I say this because you can’t get off that cross and remain on the cross.
The first thing to note is that while the pain of the cross was tremendous, Jesus did not crucify Himself. People sometimes feel that the body is the suffering of Jesus, but I want you to notice that the legs and arms still worked. Things that He did for you, His body suffered, but He did not die. Do you know that we sometimes suffer because of what we have done and the fact that it is not with us here in the flesh? But He went home to the Father. So our sufferings are not ours. The bible says He bore our sins and our failures.
The second thing we should bear in mind is that while on the cross, Jesus asked God to forgive His persecutors. He said, “Father forgive them because they do not know what they are doing.” Many people will read this and assume that Jesus was justifying them in God’s sight and that they were okay because He was His Father. This is one of the biggest mistakes that people make. They assume that God was pleased with what they have done because they are His. But this is not true. What we have to remember when we come across these words, “My God, My God, why hast thou forsaken me?” is something completely different. It has nothing to do with you. It has to do with God and Him.
He may have washed their feet and made garments for them. He fulfilled the promises of God to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, without whose Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob would not have been born. But this was not enough. It says that while they were yet sinners, He became unto them a high priest, without spot. He was made a sin for us. He did all for the side of the Father. This is why we all want to be born again. He did that for us. He was made a sin for everyone that ever came into the body. He was righteousness, He was good, He was the truth, and He was life. But because of us, He died for us.
We have to remember that He never did anything that contradicts His nature. He is righteous because He is God, not because He did anything to earn it. He did nothing to deserve it. It says in 2Corinthians 1:19, “…He hath made Him be sin for us, Who knew no sin…” What do we know about sin? We all know the one I can’t stand it anymore and say, “Gee, I am sorry, please forgive me.” If that is one of your sins, why are you not reconciling with God already? Sin is not a phenomenon that has no solution. The bible says that Christ was raised from the dead because of the enterprise of God. So there is no problem, we are created in the image of God, and we are going to have to do something at least as good in that regard — at least — if we are going to deserve that Easter thing.
And it is, in so many ways –it is– God’s will that we are wholeness. Please note that we are not made in His image but in His likeness. We do not have to merit it, but it is His will that we attain it. If we do not worth it, throwing it away is not God’s will. It is not His will that we go all the way down this road to nowhere. We will get to the other side of this cross where there will be no more trouble on earth or in heaven either. Please read that again…
